Chess Origins and Legacy
Chess, a game of ancient origins, began in northwest India during the 6th century as chaturaṅga, symbolizing the four divisions of an army. This game, echoing the battles of infantry, cavalry, elephants, and chariotry, evolved into the modern pawn, knight, bishop, and rook. Spreading through the Silk Road, it reached Europe and Russia by the 9th century, undergoing transformations over centuries. The term "checkmate" hails from the Persian "shāh māt," meaning "the king is helpless." Around 1475, significant rule changes in southern Europe molded chess into its contemporary form.

Beautifully crafted. 👍
The red and white marble chessboard was absolutely beautiful. The large coral chess pieces were gorgeous. The gift itself was the highlight of Christmas for my niece. However, the lovely blue cases the product came in had buckle clasps that were glued to the fabric instead of screwed into the actual structure of the case. One fell off the first time it was opened, the other one is loose and will probably fail the next time it is touched. I will have to screw them into the frame of the case myself. I have spoken to the company and they appreciated my feedback, offered me a replacement, which I politely declined because I love the chess set, and instead gave me a partial refund of my purchase. and vowed to make improvements. As unhappy as I was with the lack of quality on the case, that was more than made up for by the cooperative and responsive Customer service. Everything else I have purchased from this company has been of top quality, and this will not affect my consumer choice in anyway.
