A Brief Glimpse into Chess's Rich History: Originating from northwest India in the 6th century, the early game of chaturaṅga, symbolizing four divisions, metamorphosed over time and geography. As it journeyed via the Silk Road, it evolved into the contemporary pawn, knight, bishop, and rook. Adopted and renamed by the Muslim world after conquering Persia, the term "checkmate" is inspired by the Persian phrase shāh māt, translating to "the king is helpless". By around 1475, after undergoing various modifications in southern Europe, chess transformed into the game we cherish today.
