A tomahawk has a lighter head, a slimmer cutting bit, and a straight haft that's usually friction-fit through the eye — built for speed, throwing, and versatility. A hatchet is heavier with a wedged curved handle, optimized purely for chopping. A tomahawk throws and packs; a hatchet splits.
