A 19-inch heavy machete in 3Cr13 stainless steel with a wood handle. Broad and thick-spined, it is a clearing and camp blade: brush, saplings, kindling, and rough butchery in the field. The stainless steel does not need oiling, which is the point of a machete that lives in a truck or a shed. It ships with a cloth sheath.

The blade

3Cr13 is a Chinese stainless steel comparable to 420 series: modest carbon, high chromium, so it resists rust and is easy to sharpen with a file or a stone in the field. Hardened to 54 to 56 HRC, it is tough rather than hard, which is what a chopping blade wants; it will roll before it chips.
