Tyrfing – Cursed Norse Damascus Sword
Tyrfing is one of the most feared swords in Norse legend. Known as a cursed blade, Tyrfing appears in the Hervarar Saga as a weapon forged by dwarves and bound to a dark fate. The sword was said to cut through iron and stone, never rust, and bring victory to the one who carried it. But its power came with a terrible curse: once drawn, it had to take a life.
The legend of Tyrfing is tied to kings, warriors, betrayal, and doom. Unlike heroic blades associated only with glory, Tyrfing represents the dangerous side of legendary weapons: power that cannot be fully controlled. Its story follows generations of bloodshed, inheritance, and vengeance, making it one of the great cursed swords of northern mythology.
This 60-inch Tyrfing – Cursed Norse Damascus Sword features a long high carbon Damascus steel blade with a dark, patterned finish. The blade’s flowing Damascus lines give the sword an ancient, forged appearance, while its greatsword length creates the commanding presence expected of a weapon from Norse legend.
The blade is made from high carbon Damascus steel with a 352-layer construction. It begins with 11 total steel pieces: 6 pieces of carbon steel #43 and #40, combined with 5 pieces of high carbon 1095 steel. The billet is forge-welded and folded repeatedly to build the layered structure of the blade.
Damascus Layer Construction
Starting Billet: 11 Steel Pieces
6 Pieces: Carbon Steel #43 and #40
5 Pieces: High Carbon 1095 Steel
1st Fold: 11 x 2 = 22 Layers
2nd Fold: 22 x 2 = 44 Layers
3rd Fold: 44 x 2 = 88 Layers
4th Fold: 88 x 2 = 176 Layers
5th Fold: 176 x 2 = 352 Layers
After forging, polishing, and etching, the Damascus layers reveal dark waves and flowing lines across the steel. These natural variations make each blade visually distinct, giving every Tyrfing sword its own unique forged character. The layered Damascus pattern fits the dark legend of Tyrfing, a cursed sword tied to victory, bloodshed, and unavoidable fate.
The hilt features an ornate dark bronze-colored design with a fierce central face, curved guard details, and a carved grip. The monstrous guard gives the sword a grim, mythic character, fitting the legend of a cursed blade that brought both victory and destruction to its wielder.
