Rapier Description
The rapier sword is a loose term for a type of slender, sharply pointed sword. The rapier is optimized to be a thrusting weapon, but can also be used for cutting or slashing. While some rapiers are only sharpened at the tip, this rapier is sharpened throughout the length of the sword. Rapiers have a complex hilt to protect the hand. Some historians classify the rapier as a type of broadsword or saber. This weapon was mainly used in Early Modern Europe during the 16th and 17th centuries. The purpose of the one handed sword, as opposed to the two handed longsword, was to use one hand for the sword and the other for use of another weapon such as a dagger or pistol. In this way, the rapier is akin to the gladius sword of Roman times where foot soldiers used the short gladius in one hand with a shield on the other.
Blade Materials
This rapier sword is made from 1095 steel which accurately matches the very hard steel content of ancient rapier swords. Currently, 1095 steel is the highest carbon steel commonly used in swords. It has a carbon level of .95% which is one of the highest carbon levels for any type of steel. The most common high carbon swords are 1045 steel which only have .45% carbon content in the steel. 1095 steel is known for its ability to maintain an edge and is an incredibly hard steel. 1095 steel typically has a hardness of 56-58 HRC. While lacking flexibility, the steel excels at remaining sharp even through high impact collisions and can easily be resharpened.

Shipping times refer to carrier transit time after an item ships. They do not include production time, custom work, engraving, etching, or other preparation time before shipment.
In-stock items typically ship within 1 to 4 business days, though this can occasionally take longer during high-volume periods or for items requiring extra handling. Engraving or etching on in-stock items may add 1 to 3 business days before shipment.
Custom, engraved, altered, made-to-order, backordered, and specialty items (including armor and chess sets) may require additional production time before they ship. Fully custom items typically take 4 to 8 weeks, but complex requests may take longer depending on the design, materials, approvals, and production requirements.
Once an item ships, delivery time depends on the shipping method, carrier, and destination. If you need an item by a specific date, contact us before ordering so we can confirm whether the timeline is realistic.
In-stock items with no customizations can be returned free within 30 days, as long as they show no signs of use. Returns are handled through our return center.
Items that have any customization (such as engraving or etching) or that show signs of use cannot be returned. Custom and made-to-order items are produced specifically for your order and are not eligible for return.
