About Pocket Trumpets
The pocket trumpet is a standard B♭ trumpet that is produced with the tubing wound into a smaller coil than a standard trumpet, generally with a smaller diameter bell. The trumpet is a brass instrument, or brass wind instrument, commonly seen in classical and jazz ensembles. The trumpet group ranges from the high register piccolo trumpet to the bass trumpet, the lowest octave trumpet.
Trumpet-like instruments have been used as signaling devices in battle or hunting. Historical finds date back to 1500 B.C.E. or even earlier. Their use as musical instruments began in the late 14th or early 15th century. Trumpets are used in art music styles, such as orchestras, concert bands, jazz ensembles, and other types of popular music.
There are many types of trumpets. The most common is pitched in B♭ (a transposing instrument). This instruments commonly has aa tubing length of 4 ft 10 in, (1.48 meters). Modern instruments generally have three or four valves to change their pitch. Most trumpets have piston valves, A musician who plays the trumpet is called a trumpet player or trumpeter.
