Excalibur Sword – King Arthur Sword – 29" 1095 High Carbon Steel

Excalibur is more than a sword — it is the sword: the blade of King Arthur, given by the Lady of the Lake, symbol of rightful kingship, honor, and destiny. This 29-inch interpretation renders the legend in traditional working steel: full-tang 1095 high-carbon, sharpened along both edges, in compact proportions that display anywhere and handle with the smooth balance the legend demands. A fitted leather sheath is included.

The 1095 High Carbon Steel Blade

The blade is forged from 1095 high-carbon steel — 0.95% carbon, the highest-carbon steel commonly used in swords — fully heat-treated to take and hold its razor-sharp, double-edged grind. A strong central ridge runs the blade's long, tapering profile, stiffening it for the thrust the way medieval cutlers intended, and the full-tang construction carries the steel in one piece through the hilt.

Like all high-carbon steel, the blade is not stainless: wipe it clean after handling and keep it lightly oiled, and it will hold its polish and edge indefinitely.

A Hilt Worthy of a King

The crossguard is gold-embellished in a medieval heraldic design, the black-wrapped grip is built over a solid metal core, and the pommel carries ornate crest detailing — the regalia of rightful kingship, balanced for ceremony, re-enactment, or display. At 29 inches overall, this Excalibur sits comfortably on any wall, desk display, or shelf where its larger cousins won't fit — the legend, concentrated.

Sword Care

Remove fingerprints and moisture from the blade after handling, and apply a thin coat of mineral oil or sword oil before storage. Keep the sword in a dry environment, and store the oiled blade outside the leather sheath long-term, as leather retains moisture against carbon steel. Avoid abrasive cleaners on the gold-toned fittings. Because the edge is sharpened, handle the sword with care and store it out of reach of children.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is Excalibur a real sword?

No original exists — Excalibur belongs to legend, appearing in Arthurian tales from Geoffrey of Monmouth's 12th-century histories through Malory's Le Morte d'Arthur. That's precisely why every Excalibur is an interpretation, and why we built ours in real, sharpened, heat-treated 1095 steel rather than a costume-shop casting.

What does "Excalibur" mean?

The name descends from the Welsh Caledfwlch and the Latin Caliburnus, and is often interpreted as "cut steel" — a sword named for what it does. By legend, the blade shone so bright it dazzled Arthur's enemies.

Is Excalibur the sword in the stone?

In most tellings, no — they're two different swords. The sword in the stone proved Arthur's right to the throne; Excalibur came later, given by the Lady of the Lake after the first sword broke, and returned to her hand at Arthur's end. Some versions merge them, but the classic legend keeps them separate.

Why is this Excalibur 29 inches?

Compactness is the point of this version: at 29 inches it fits displays, offices, and shelves where a full-size sword can't go, while keeping the full hilt regalia and a genuine sharpened 1095 blade. If you want maximum presence instead, the 34" Damascus version is the same legend at greater scale.

Is this sword sharpened?

Yes — both edges ship sharpened, backed by a full heat treatment of the 1095 high-carbon steel. Handle it with the respect a sharpened blade deserves, and use the included sheath for storage and transport.

Shipping times refer to carrier transit time after an item ships. They do not include production time, custom work, engraving, etching, or other preparation time before shipment.

In-stock items typically ship within 1 to 4 business days, though this can occasionally take longer during high-volume periods or for items requiring extra handling. Engraving or etching on in-stock items may add 1 to 3 business days before shipment.

Custom, engraved, altered, made-to-order, backordered, and specialty items (including armor and chess sets) may require additional production time before they ship. Fully custom items typically take 4 to 8 weeks, but complex requests may take longer depending on the design, materials, approvals, and production requirements.

Once an item ships, delivery time depends on the shipping method, carrier, and destination. If you need an item by a specific date, contact us before ordering so we can confirm whether the timeline is realistic.

In-stock items with no customizations can be returned free within 30 days, as long as they show no signs of use. Returns are handled through our return center.

Items that have any customization (such as engraving or etching) or that show signs of use cannot be returned. Custom and made-to-order items are produced specifically for your order and are not eligible for return.

If your item arrives damaged, incorrect, or defective, contact us with your order number and photos so we can review the issue.
