Cavalry Sabre Description
The sabre, or saber, is a single edged, backsword with a curved blade. Ā This blade is first recorded in 1670, directly copied from the French Sable.Ā Many other countries adopted this design in their own form.Ā Ā The weapon was multifunctional, designed for cutting as well as thrusting, but its primary function was cutting.Ā This sword had particular important in the cavalry due to its function.Ā The sabreās roots come from the Persian shamshir, a narrow, curved blade.Ā More than 4/5thsĀ of swords in 19thĀ century Europe were in the sabre design.Ā The sabre was used as a military weapon for dueling academic fencing in the 19th century.Ā This led to modern Olympic Sabre fencing allowing cuts and thrusts.Ā Ā This sword has a tiger head pommel.
