Immerse yourself in the grandeur of the late medieval and Renaissance periods with our expertly crafted longsword, affectionately known in its prime as the 'bastard sword.' This period, stretching from 1350 to 1550, was a golden age of swordsmanship and warfare, where the longsword stood as a symbol of power, agility, and martial skill. Our longsword pays homage to this storied past, featuring a design that is both historically accurate and aesthetically magnificent.

Key Features

  • Overall Length: Measuring an impressive 37 inches, this longsword commands attention and respect, mirroring the traditional weapons wielded by knights and warriors of yore.
  • Blade Material: The heart of the sword, its blade, is a marvel of metallurgy, forged from pattern-welded Damascus steel. This steel is not ordinary; it is a blend of the highest content carbon steel, primarily 1095, known for its superior strength and ability to hold a sharp edge.
  • Layer Count: Our blade boasts 352 layers, a testament to the intricate process of folding the steel five times. This method, rooted in ancient forging techniques, imbues the blade with a unique pattern, strength, and flexibility that is unmatched.
  • Hardness: Achieving a Rockwell Hardness of 55-56 HRC, the blade strikes the ideal balance between sharpness and durability. This ensures the sword can withstand the rigors of combat, whether in a historical reenactment or on display as a magnificent piece of art.
  • Handle: The handle, as crucial as the blade, is crafted from premium wood and adorned with Damascus steel bolsters. This not only provides a comfortable and secure grip but also adds an element of elegance to the sword’s overall appearance.
  • Sheath: Accompanying the sword is a complimentary leather sheath, carefully crafted to offer protection to the blade while ensuring ease of carriage and display.

Steel Composition

The blade's composition is a carefully selected mix of 6 pieces of Carbon Steel #43 and #40 and 5 pieces of High Carbon Steel 1095. This combination has been chosen for its proven performance in creating a blade that is both resilient and capable of holding a keen edge.

Layer Formation:

  • 1st Fold: The forging process begins with 22 layers, laying the groundwork for the blade's complex structure.
  • 2nd Fold: Progressing to 44 layers, the steel starts to reveal the distinctive patterns characteristic of Damascus steel.
  • 3rd Fold: At 88 layers, the steel's strength and flexibility are significantly enhanced.
  • 4th Fold: Advancing to 176 layers, the blade's durability and resistance to wear are further improved.
  • 5th Fold: The final fold culminates in 352 layers, a remarkable feat that ensures each sword is a unique piece of craftsmanship.

This longsword is more than just a weapon; it is a bridge to the past, a masterpiece that harmoniously combines the unmatched strength and flexibility of high carbon Damascus steel. Its creation is an ode to the ancient art of sword making, offering an edge that is not only capable of withstanding the test of intense combat but also of capturing the essence of a bygone era. Whether you are a collector, a practitioner of historical martial arts, or an enthusiast of medieval history, this longsword promises to be a stunning addition to your collection, resonating with tales of valor, chivalry, and unparalleled craftsmanship.
