Battling Blades is a family-owned business based in Deerfield, Illinois. We design, sell and customize swords, knives, axes, armor and related historical, fantasy and collectible products.

Our catalog includes longswords, katanas, Viking swords, gladius swords, rapiers, cutlasses, scimitars, axes, knives, armor, shields and custom-made products.

Battling Blades focuses on historically inspired, fantasy-inspired and custom collectible blades.

Customers can shop finished products from our catalog or create custom swords, knives, axes and spears through our Create Your Own product line.

Our custom options allow customers to choose materials, dimensions, construction features, engraving, artwork, scabbards and other design details. For more specialized designs, customers can submit reference images, drawings or written descriptions.

Customers can use our custom sword builder to choose a sword style, blade steel, length, handle design, guard, pommel, scabbard, engraving and personalization options.

Our products use a range of materials depending on the item and configuration, including high-carbon steel, Damascus steel, stainless steel, wood, leather, bone, micarta and metal fittings.

Product pages include available specifications such as blade material, length, hardness, handle material, construction details, scabbard type and personalization options.

Many custom swords can be configured with 1095 high-carbon steel, Damascus steel, full-tang construction, sharpening, blade engraving and custom scabbards.

Engraving and Custom Artwork

Battling Blades offers personalization options on many products, including blade engraving, scabbard engraving, names, initials, dates, logos, symbols, custom artwork and UV printing where available.

Personalized and made-to-order items are produced according to the selected options and submitted customer details.

A tribute to the legendary Jim Bowie, this 14-inch Woodsman Bowie Knife is a rugged and elegant tool inspired by the American frontier. Originally designed in the early 19th century and named after one of the most storied fighters in American history, the Bowie knife has since evolved into a favorite for hunters, outdoorsmen, and collectors alike.

Characterized by its clip-point blade, cross guard, and broad, thick steel design, the Bowie knife is ideal for skinning, butchering, and heavy-duty fieldwork. The sharpened clip point makes it especially effective for fine slicing or removing hide, while the straight lower edge is perfect for cutting meat and other tough materials. It’s a versatile blade built for the wild.

Blade Material: Pattern-Welded Damascus Steel – 352 Layers

This blade is crafted from 11 pieces of carbon and high carbon steel, folded five times to create a striking 352-layer Damascus pattern. The mix includes 6 pieces of carbon steel (#43 and #40) and 5 pieces of 1095 high carbon steel, the highest carbon content commonly used in blade making.

With a Rockwell hardness of 55–56 HRC, the steel offers the perfect blend of edge retention, strength, and flexibility—making it as functional as it is beautiful.
