Wide Skinning Knife – High Carbon Damascus Steel Blade
Designed for Precision & Efficiency
A skinning knife, or skinner, is a specialized hunting knife designed for carefully removing the hide of game animals without damaging the skin. Unlike traditional hunting knives, skinning knives feature a rounded point to prevent accidental punctures. The blade’s slightly curved shape enhances control, making it ideal for precise cuts while processing meat.
Hunting knives are crafted for cutting, not stabbing, with a single sharpened edge that aids in both skinning and slicing. Some designs feature a guthook for added utility. This particular American-style hunting knife is inspired by the Bowie knife, a legendary blade developed by James Black in the early 19th century. The Bowie knife is known for its broad, thick steel blade and versatile design, making it ideal for both skinning and butchering game.
The curved top clip bevel allows for smooth skin removal, while the straight portion near the guard excels at slicing meat. This design ensures the knife is a reliable tool for hunters, outdoor enthusiasts, and collectors alike.
Exceptional Blade Craftsmanship
Crafted from Pattern-Welded Damascus Steel, this knife is forged using 11 pieces of steel, folded five times to create 352 layers. This process results in a blade that offers an ideal balance of hardness and flexibility, ensuring long-lasting performance and superior edge retention.
The steel composition includes:
- 6 pieces of Carbon Steel (#43 and #40)
-
5 pieces of 1095 High Carbon Steel – the highest carbon content steel used in swords, providing superior durability.
Folding process:
-
1st Fold: 11×2 = 22 layers
-
2nd Fold: 22×2 = 44 layers
-
3rd Fold: 44×2 = 88 layers
-
4th Fold: 88×2 = 176 layers
-
5th Fold: 176×2 = 352 layers
This results in a Rockwell Hardness of 55-56 HRC, ensuring superior cutting performance while maintaining the necessary flexibility for rugged outdoor use.
