Gurkha Kukri Description

The Gurkha Kukri is a Nepalese knife with an inward curvature.  The knife is similar to a machete and can be used as both a tool and a weapon.  The Gurkha knife remains the basic utility weapon of the Nepalese people.  It is also used by the the Royal Gurkha Rifles of the British Army, Nepalese Army, Assam Rifles, Gorkha regiments of the Indian Army, and of all Gurkha regiments worldwide.  Due to the worldwide regiment use, the weapon acquired the English name “Gurkha blade” or “Gurkha knife”. The Gurkha knife often appears in Nepalese heraldry and is used in many traditional rituals.

Blade Materials

This gladius sword is made from Pattern welded Damascus steel.  Pattern welded Damascus steel is a hard heat treated, folded carbon steel.  There are 11 pieces of steel, folded five times, making 352 layers.  The steel is the perfect combination of hardness and durability with a Rockwell hardness rating between 55 and 56 HRC.  High carbon damascus steel must contain layers of high carbon steel.  The high carbon steel we use is 1095 steel which is the highest content carbon steel used in swords.  The combination of the steel layers creates a sword that is strong enough to hold a powerful edge while having the strength and flexibility to withstand powerful collisions.  This makes the perfect steel for swords.  The handle is wood with stag horn pommels.  It comes with a leather sheath.

Second blade purchased from this seller. This bladesmith makes very good quality swords and knives. I am happy with the Gurkha-Kukri I received. It has a very sturdy grip, and the Damascus steel pattern is striking. Edge was fairly sharp, and sheath was functional and well put together.

Amazing

The one downside I see with this is the craftsmanship involved in this, it is so beautiful I want to hang it on the wall rather than use it. I'm clearing a area overgrown with all kinds of horrible things growing( I cannot get my tractor in here) and so far I have had no trouble with vines and trees upward of 3 inches thick. Very happy with this tool!!
