Invoking the might of the Ancient Roman foot soldiers, this meticulously crafted Gladius Sword embodies historical authenticity and superior craftsmanship. Originating from the Latin word for sword, "Gladius" is an emblem of ancient warfare. Early Roman swords bore a resemblance to those wielded by the Greeks, but as Rome extended its conquests, notably the Celtiberians, their weapon design evolved. This culminated in the Gladius Hispaniensis or the "Hispanic Sword".

Traditionally, the gladius was drawn after the soldier had hurled his javelins, disarming the enemy's shields and breaking their formations. This set the stage for close combat, where the gladius reigned supreme. Coupled with a shield, this deadly weapon, adept for cutting, chopping, and thrusting, became the Roman soldier's most trusted ally on the battlefield.

Exceptional Blade Craftsmanship

Our Gladius Sword is forged from the exquisite Pattern Welded Damascus Steel, known for its heat-treated, folded properties. The blade is a manifestation of 11 distinct steel pieces, folded meticulously five times, culminating in an impressive 352 layers. The Damascus steel, with a Rockwell hardness rating of 55-56 HRC, exhibits a sublime balance of hardness and durability.

The high carbon 1095 steel, which ranks as the richest in carbon content used in swords, forms integral layers of the Damascus steel. This unique blend ensures a resilient edge, capable of withstanding substantial impacts. The result is a sword that embodies robust strength, flexibility, and sharpness, ideal for any swordsman.

Accompanied by a handle crafted from Micarta and ornamented with brass bolsters, the Gladius Sword radiates a unique blend of aesthetics and ergonomics. Each sword is complemented with a protective leather sheath for secure storage.

Nice mix of ancient and modern.

Beautifully-forged, well-balanced little blade made in the style of a gladius but with contemporary handle materials and a hunting knife-type sheath. The scabbard is single stitched but sturdy, with a whetstone pocket and heavy-duty snaps proudly but inexplicably embossed with the Great Seal of the State of Oklahoma. Beautiful pattern on the blade, which is nicely balanced and appears ready to withstand vigorous use. The grip's a bit small; I wrapped grip tape and now it's perfect. Instantly one of my favorites. Questions promptly answered too, props to customer service!
