Bowie Knife Details

The Bowie knife is a fixed-blade knife created by James Black in the early 19th century.  This was founded in Arkansas, USA in reference to the legendary Jim Bowie.  The Bowie knife is used to describe a wide range of hunting knives, although in common usage the term refers to any large sheath knife with a crossguard and a clip point.  The knife pattern is still popular with collectors and hunters.  Most modern versions of the Bowie knife a blade length between 6 and 12 inches, with a relatively broad blade with thick steel.  The Bowie knife's design makes it the perfect hunting knife for skinning or butchering game. The curved top clip bevel of the blade, when suitably sharpened, may be used to remove the skin from a carcass, while the straight portion of the blade edge, toward the guard, can be used for cutting meat.  All Battling Blades Bowie knives are extremely high quality knives, with exceptionally thick steel.  These knives are used for hunting or display and are not intended or sold for use as a weapon.

Blade Material

The knife is made from Pattern welded Damascus steel.  Pattern welded Damascus steel is a hard heat treated, folded carbon steel.  There are 11 pieces of steel, folded five times, making 352 layers.  The steel is the perfect combination of hardness and durability with a Rockwell hardness rating between 55 and 56 HRC.  High carbon damascus steel must contain layers of high carbon steel.  The high carbon steel we use is 1095 steel which is the highest content carbon steel used in swords.  The combination of the steel layers creates a sword that is strong enough to hold a powerful edge while having the strength and flexibility to withstand powerful collisions.  This makes the perfect steel for swords.  The handle is wood and horn with Damascus steel bolsters.  It comes with a leather sheath.

Fantastic knife.

This knife is a great addition to my collection! I keep it in my truck should I need a knife. It’s a handsome knife that holds an edge! I take the time to make sure I keep a layer of oil on it because Damascus steel will rust! I’m very very satisfied with this knife:)
