Backgammon Set
Backgammon is a two-player table game. Each player has fifteen pieces that move between twenty-four triangles (points) according to the roll of two dice. The objective of the game is to be first to bear off, meaning to move all fifteen pieces off the board, in accordance to dice rolls. With each dice roll, players must choose how to move their pieces while anticipating countermoves by the opponent. The doubling cube allows players to raise the stakes during the game. The Royal Game of Ur from 2600 B.C.E may be the ancestor or intermediate of modern-day table games like backgammon due to its use of tetrahedral dice. Various other board games spanning from the 10th to 7th centuries B.C.E have been found throughout modern day Middle East. Currently, in the Middle East, backgammon is a common feature of coffeehouses.
