Often whispered about in the halls of European swordsmanship, the longsword, or 'king sword', stands as a testament to the martial artistry of the medieval and Renaissance ages. With its distinctive cruciform hilt and the two-handed grip holding a straight double-edged blade, it beckons to a time of chivalry, combat, and conquest spanning the 13th to the 17th centuries.
Prominent during the late medieval and Renaissance periods, the longsword was frequently termed the 'bastard sword'. Such a title was reserved for swords whose lengths ranged between 33"-43". Our rendition of the Spanish King Sword elegantly extends to a length of 37".
A Blade of Distinction
Housed within this storied weapon lies the heart of its strength – the Pattern-welded Damascus steel. Recognized for its unique patterns reminiscent of flowing water or intricate mazes, the blade is forged from 11 distinct steel pieces, folded painstakingly five times, culminating in an impressive 352 layers. Such intricate forging gifts the blade a Rockwell hardness rating of 55 to 56 HRC, ensuring both durability and a keen edge.
The 1095 steel, the zenith of high carbon steel in sword crafting, adds strength and sharpness. This amalgamation of different steels guarantees a blade robust enough for the mightiest blows and flexible enough to weather intense combat.
