Scythian Sword Description
The Scythian sword, also known as the acinaces sword, is a dagger or short sword that originated in the first millennium BCE in the eastern Mediterranean region. Originally used by the Medes, Scythians, Persians, and Caspii, this weapon eventually became a primary weapon used by the Greeks.
Though the Persians made it famous, archaeological evidence suggests that the acinaces actually originated as a Scythian weapon. Typically between 14-18 inches in length, the sword eventually grew to upward of 26 inches under Persian development.
It features a double edge with a bollock dagger hilt, with the most traditional pommel being of the split style. The Scythian sword was worn on the right side of the wearer, suspended from a belt.
