Longsword Description

The longsword, also known as a long sword or long-sword, is a renowned type of European sword that embodies the essence of medieval and Renaissance weaponry. Characterized by its cruciform hilt, this sword is designed for two-handed use, offering superior control and power. The longsword features a straight, double-edged blade, making it a versatile weapon for both cutting and thrusting attacks.

Historically, the longsword was prevalent during the late medieval and Renaissance periods, approximately from 1350 to 1550. However, its use can be traced back to the 13th century and extended into the 17th century. During these times, it was also referred to as a bastard sword, a term used to denote its unique size and handling capabilities. The term "longsword" typically refers to swords with a length ranging between 33 inches and 45 inches.

This particular longsword is a fine example of historical craftsmanship and measures an impressive 40 inches in overall length. The blade itself is 32 inches long, providing a perfect balance of reach and maneuverability. The handle, measuring 8 inches, is crafted from high-quality wood, wrapped in leather to ensure a comfortable and secure grip during use. Steel bolsters add strength and durability to the handle, making this longsword both functional and aesthetically pleasing.

To complement its authentic design, this longsword comes with a handmade leather sheath. The sheath not only offers protection for the blade but also adds a touch of elegance and practicality for carrying and storage. The blade is forged from stainless steel, known for its corrosion resistance and lasting sharpness, with a Rockwell hardness of 52-54 HRC, ensuring a perfect balance between hardness and flexibility.
