Experience a piece of European history with our meticulously crafted Longsword, a hallmark of the late Medieval and Renaissance periods. Known alternatively as the 'bastard sword', this iconic weapon is characterized by its cruciform hilt, straight double-edged blade, and a design that encourages a two-handed grip.
The Longsword was widely utilized between 1350 and 1550, though its roots trace back to the 13th century and its influence lingered until the 17th century. Our rendition of this timeless weapon adheres to the traditional length of 33"-45", coming in at an impressive 44" in total length, with a 36" blade and 8" handle.
We've paid homage to the essence of the longsword by featuring a wood handle wrapped in leather, enhanced with robust Damascus steel bolsters. Each sword is complete with a handcrafted leather sheath for secure storage and transportation.
Our blade is made from 1095 steel, renowned for its high carbon content (.95%) and known to be the choice of material in many high-end swords. Its unique properties allow it to maintain a sharp edge, while demonstrating a hardness level of 56-58 HRC. Although 1095 steel can be inflexible, we've implemented a traditional clay tempering process to increase the blade's flexibility without compromising its strength and sharpness.
By carefully applying a thick layer of clay to insulate parts of the blade during quenching, we've achieved a balanced construction that's both resilient and flexible. This attention to detail results in a blade that resists breakage during high impact collisions, while preserving the sharp, enduring edge.
