Dive deep into European heritage with our expertly crafted longsword, synonymous with power and elegance. The longsword, alternatively referred to as the long sword or long-sword, distinguishes itself with its cruciform hilt, straight double-edged blade, and a grip fashioned for two-handed use.

Historical Relevance

Predominantly gracing the landscapes of late medieval and Renaissance Europe (from around 1350 to 1550), its historical traces can be found as early as the 13th century and as late as the 17th century. Renowned as the 'bastard sword' during the zenith of the medieval and Renaissance era, its defining characteristic remains its size, typically ranging between 33" and 43". Our meticulously designed bastard sword spans 36", with a 30" blade and a 6" handle.

Features

  • Craftsmanship: The handle, constructed from wood and encased in leather, is adorned with Damascus steel bolsters, amplifying its aesthetic appeal. Moreover, it is paired with a handmade leather sheath, ensuring its protection.

  • High Carbon 1095 Steel: Esteemed for its remarkable carbon content of .95%, 1095 steel stands at the pinnacle of sword-making materials. In contrast, the frequently used 1045 steel only boasts a .45% carbon composition. Celebrated for its unparalleled edge retention and hardness, 1095 steel typically has a Rockwell hardness ranging between 56-58 HRC. Its only drawback is its limited flexibility.

  • Clay Tempering Technique: To enhance the inherent rigidity of 1095 steel, we employ clay tempering. Thick clay layers are painted onto the blade, insulating certain sections. During quenching, this differential cooling technique ensures the blade's edge remains sharp and hard, while the body gains flexibility. This delicate balance between strength and flexibility results in a blade of supreme quality.

Detailed Specifications

  • Handle: Wood, wrapped in leather, accentuated by 1095 steel bolsters.
  • Length: 36 inches of historical and functional artistry.
  • Rockwell Hardness: Ranging between 56-58 HRC, guaranteeing durability.
  • Blade: Forged from the finest 1095 steel.
  • Sheath: Crafted from genuine leather for protection.
