Synonymous with seafaring rogues and daring naval battles, the Cutlass stands as an iconic short, broad sabre. Its straight or slightly curved blade, sharpened to precision on the cutting edge, offers swift and powerful strokes. Often, the hilt boasts a distinctive solid cupped or basket-shaped guard for optimal hand protection. Renowned as the weapon of choice during the Age of Sail, the Cutlass's fame is perhaps most associated with its use by pirates. These swashbuckling marauders employed the Cutlass not just for combat, but as a tool of intimidation, often compelling surrender with no more than a grip on the hilt. Its flat blade also served as an effective means to enforce compliance during interrogations.

Blade Composition

Our Cutlass is expertly crafted from pattern-welded Damascus steel, known for its exceptional strength and striking visual patterns. This hard heat-treated, folded carbon steel is formed from 11 distinct pieces of steel, folded five times to create an impressive 352 layers. This process results in the perfect blend of hardness and durability, boasting a Rockwell hardness rating between 55 and 56 HRC. The high carbon Damascus steel comprises layers of high carbon steel, specifically 1095 steel, which is renowned as the highest carbon content steel used in sword crafting. This fusion of steel layers engenders a sword capable of maintaining a sharp, powerful edge, while offering the strength and flexibility to endure high-impact collisions. The wood handle, complemented by Damascus steel bolsters, ensures a sturdy grip. The Cutlass comes complete with a protective leather sheath.
