Steel Type
Stainless Steel: Stainless steel is corrosion-resistant and requires less maintenance than high-carbon steel. It is commonly selected for decorative swords, ceremonial pieces and highly detailed custom designs.
1095 High-Carbon Steel: 1095 high-carbon steel is a traditional blade material valued for its hardness, edge retention and substantial construction. Our 1095 steel blades typically measure approximately 56 to 58 HRC. High-carbon steel should be kept clean, dry and lightly oiled to help prevent corrosion.
Damascus Steel: Our Damascus steel blades are made from layered high-carbon steels, creating a distinctive visible pattern. Natural variations in the pattern make each Damascus blade unique. Damascus steel blades typically measure approximately 55 to 56 HRC and should also be kept clean, dry and lightly oiled.
Sword Length
Choose an overall sword length from 20 inches through 75 inches. Longer custom swords may be available by special request.
The appropriate dimensions and proportions depend on the selected sword style, blade shape, handle design and construction. Our team may recommend an adjustment when an unusual combination would affect the appearance, proportions or build of the finished sword.
Professional-Grade and Battle-Ready Construction
Customers seeking the most substantial available build can configure a professional-grade, battle-ready sword using compatible premium options. Battle-ready construction refers to how the sword is built: functional steel, a hardened blade, and a full-tang hilt assembly, the construction standard of a genuine sword rather than a decorative wall display piece.
A recommended battle-ready build may include:
- 1095 high-carbon or layered Damascus steel
- Full-tang construction
- Hardened blade
- Sharpened or unsharpened edge
- Solid wood, micarta or wrapped handle
- Securely fitted guard and pommel
- Blade proportions suited to the selected sword style
- Premium leather or wood scabbard
All custom swords receive a final inspection before shipment. Not every option is compatible with every sword design, so we may contact you if a selected feature needs to be adjusted for structural, manufacturing or design reasons.
Guard and Pommel Styles
Choose from simple, traditional, decorative and highly ornate guard and pommel styles.
Available options may include:
- Traditional crossguards
- Decorative guards
- Themed or fantasy-style guards
- Multiple pommel shapes
- Detailed metalwork
- Different colors and finishes
Exact availability depends on the selected sword style and handle configuration.
Handle Material Options
Wood: A classic handle material with natural grain, a traditional appearance and a comfortable feel.
Steel: Provides a heavier, more substantial feel with a metal-finished appearance.
Wire-Wrapped Grip: Adds texture and a traditional wrapped-hilt appearance.
Micarta: A durable composite material known for its strength, stability and moisture resistance.
Additional materials, colors and wrapping styles may be available depending on the selected sword design.
Customization Features
Sharpened or Unsharpened: Choose a sharpened or unsharpened custom sword. Sharpening provides a completed, finished edge. Custom swords are supplied unsharpened unless the sharpening option is selected. Sharpened swords require careful handling, secure storage and proper maintenance.
Full Tang: With full-tang construction, the blade steel extends through the handle, creating a stronger and more integrated assembly than a decorative partial-tang design. Choose full tang when you want the most substantial construction available for your custom sword.
Fuller: A fuller is a groove formed along part of the blade. Depending on the design, it can reduce blade weight while helping maintain the blade's structure and proportions.
Scabbard: A standard scabbard is included. Available upgrades may include:
- Etched leather
- Wrapped wood
- Etched wood
- Ornate jeweled designs
- Multiple scabbard colors
A sword scabbard is also sometimes referred to as a sword sheath.
Custom Blade Engraving: Personalize your blade with initials, names, dates, sentences, logos, symbols, images, custom artwork or UV blade printing.
Scabbard Engraving: Add initials, a name, date, sentence or other available personalization to the scabbard.
Please review all spelling, dates, written instructions and uploaded artwork carefully before submitting your order. The size, placement and appearance of engraving or artwork may be adjusted to fit the available blade, handle or scabbard area.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can you make a custom sword from my own design?
Yes. You can build a sword from the configurator options or choose Custom Design and upload a photo, drawing, digital artwork, or written description. Your reference can specify the blade shape, handle, guard, pommel, dimensions, engraving, artwork, and scabbard.
What is a battle-ready sword?
A battle-ready sword is built to a functional construction standard: functional steel, a hardened blade, and a full-tang hilt assembly, as opposed to a decorative wall-hanger with a partial tang. The term describes how the sword is built, not a recommendation for use.
What is the best steel for a custom sword?
It depends on the goal. Stainless steel is corrosion-resistant and popular for decorative and ceremonial pieces. 1095 high-carbon steel is valued for hardness and edge retention. Damascus steel is layered high-carbon steel with a distinctive visible pattern. The 1095 and Damascus options are high-carbon steels and should be kept clean, dry, and lightly oiled.
What is the difference between full tang and partial tang?
With full-tang construction the blade steel extends through the handle, creating a stronger, more integrated assembly. A partial or decorative tang does not run the full length of the handle. Full tang is the most substantial construction available for a custom sword.
What types of swords can you make?
Almost any sword you can describe or picture. The configurator includes popular styles like longswords, Viking swords, katanas, rapiers, greatswords, gladius, scimitars, sabers, cutlasses, bastard swords, and fantasy or ceremonial swords, but those are just starting points. If you have something else in mind, choose Custom Design and send us a photo, drawing, or description, and we will build it. Historical, fantasy, movie-inspired, or completely original, if it can be made, we can make it.
What is Damascus steel?
Damascus steel is made from layered high-carbon steels that are forge-welded together, creating a distinctive visible pattern. Natural variations in the pattern make each Damascus blade unique. Our Damascus blades typically measure approximately 55 to 56 HRC.
How much does a custom sword cost?
Pricing depends on the selected steel, length, construction options, scabbard, and engraving. Each option in the configurator shows its price so the total updates as you build. Contact us for help estimating a specific configuration.
Shipping times refer to carrier transit time after an item ships. They do not include production time, custom work, engraving, etching, or other preparation time before shipment.
In-stock items typically ship within 1 to 4 business days, though this can occasionally take longer during high-volume periods or for items requiring extra handling. Engraving or etching on in-stock items may add 1 to 3 business days before shipment.
Custom, engraved, altered, made-to-order, backordered, and specialty items (including armor and chess sets) may require additional production time before they ship. Fully custom items typically take 4 to 8 weeks, but complex requests may take longer depending on the design, materials, approvals, and production requirements.
Once an item ships, delivery time depends on the shipping method, carrier, and destination. If you need an item by a specific date, contact us before ordering so we can confirm whether the timeline is realistic.
In-stock items with no customizations can be returned free within 30 days, as long as they show no signs of use. Returns are handled through our return center.
Items that have any customization (such as engraving or etching) or that show signs of use cannot be returned. Custom and made-to-order items are produced specifically for your order and are not eligible for return.
If your item arrives damaged, incorrect, or defective, contact us with your order number and photos so we can review the issue.
