A 37.5-inch falchion in 1095 high carbon steel with a steel grip. The falchion is the medieval European single-edged sword, broad toward the point and weighted forward like a cleaver, in use from the 13th century onward. This is the long version, a display-scale piece rather than the one-handed original.

The blade

1095 is a plain high carbon steel with about 0.95 percent carbon, roughly double the carbon of the 1045 steel used in most production blades. It takes a very hard edge, typically 56 to 58 HRC, holds it through hard work, and sharpens back easily. It is not stainless: wipe it after use and keep a light coat of oil on it.
