Scimitar Description

The scimitar sword is a backsword or sabre with a curved blade, originating in the Middle East.  The scimitar was widespread throughout the Middle East from at least the Ottoman period, with early examples dating to the 9th century.  There is debate on the origins of the word scimitar.  The Arabic term saif is likely to be derived from the same source as Greek xiphos (the straight, double-edged sword of Greek antiquity).  The Persian sword now called shamshir appeared in the 12th century and was popularized in Persia by the early 16th century.

Blade Material

The scimitar sword is made from Pattern welded Damascus steel.  Pattern welded Damascus steel scimitar is a hard heat treated, folded carbon steel.  There are 11 pieces of steel, folded five times, making 352 layers.  The steel is the perfect combination of hardness and durability with a Rockwell hardness rating between 55 and 56 HRC.  High carbon damascus steel must contain layers of high carbon steel.  The high carbon steel we use is 1095 steel which is the highest content carbon steel used in swords.  The combination of the steel layers creates a sword that is strong enough to hold a powerful edge while having the strength and flexibility to withstand powerful collisions.  This makes the perfect steel for swords.  The handle is bone and horn with Damascus steel bolsters.  It comes with a leather sheath.

Scimitar Sword

Blown Away With the Quality

This is a highly impressive sword. The blade is very very thick.

Best Sword Ever

Ditto on the other reviews. I have about 50 swords, many far more expensive than this, and this is the best one I have. The difference is in the steel quality. Also, the handle is insanely perfect.

Best Sword I Have Ever Seen

I never thought this could live up to the other reviews, but wow, I am totally blown away. First, the steel is wider and thicker than I have ever seen on a sword. It is clearly made for durability and I literally chopped apart a stump in my yard in the middle of winter. The blade is as perfect as ever. Usually with this kind of abuse, there will be some sort of visual impact, but there was nothing at all. The handle is as impressive as the blade. Deer horn at the base which fit perfectly in my hand. It is a light yet incredibly durable material. The guard is brass (I think) and looks amazing while being totally functional. This is clearly made with dedication. I am truly blown away!

Best Sword in Collection

This was my 8th sword from Battling Blades and it is the unquestionable best. You cannot see the patterning and specificity of design in the photos for any of their swords, but they are truly outstanding. This sword is comparable to my antique 16th century scimitars. I only collect but also tried using it on a mat and it sliced through with ease. The blade is straight and sharp. The handle is light and powerful. The sword is the highlight of my collection.
