Viking Sword / Ulfberht - High Carbon Damascus Steel Sword- 38"- Stiklestad
Viking Sword DescriptionThe Viking sword (also known as the Viking age sword) or Ulfberht is the type of sword prevalent in Western and Northern Europe during the Early Middle Ages. The type of Viking sword was made famous in the Stiklestad battle. The Viking sword developed in the 8th century from the Merovingian sword and was the primary sword used by the Scandinavian based Viking people. The sword was derived from the Roman Gladius sword. It is a single handed sword with a sharp tip and edges designed for slashing as well as thrusting. Viking swords remained popular until the 12th century where they blended into Norman swords which were the first stages of the knightly sword.
Blade MaterialsThe sword is made from Pattern welded Damascus steel. Pattern welded Damascus steel is a hard heat treated, folded carbon steel. There are 11 pieces of steel, folded five times, making 352 layers. The steel is the perfect combination of hardness and durability with a Rockwell hardness rating between 55 and 56 HRC. High carbon damascus steel must contain layers of high carbon steel. The high carbon steel we use is 1095 steel which is the highest content carbon steel used in swords. The combination of the steel layers creates a sword that is strong enough to hold a powerful edge while having the strength and flexibility to withstand powerful collisions. This makes the perfect steel for swords. The handle is wood wrapped in leather with Damascus steel bolsters. It comes with a leather sheath.

This is a fabulous company. The quality of the sword and scabbard is really great. The steel is beautiful, came clean, oiled and sharp. It’s lighter than I anticipated but I’m very much new to swords. It’s a perfect length. I ordered a cleaning kit with it. When the box arrived, it was munched up in the delivery process and the cleaner wasn’t in the box anymore. Less than 24 hours after contacting their customer service, they sent out a replacement and let me know that they took care of it. All in all, I really look forward to any and all business I do with this company.
Good balance, nice feel. Handle is solid easy to grip firmly. Some reproduction blades just wrap the tang, not this one. Sheath has a leather strap which goes over the guard and a snap onto the sheath. Not at all period, so might receive a comment at a reenactment. Overall, well made sword.
Absolutely stunning. This blade is definitely my favorite in my collection. I am more than satisfied with this company. They answered my questions prior to my order being placed. The wait time was actually very quick. I am definitely going to order again! Thank you battling blades for such a wonderful work of art.
