Our Karambit Knife is a powerful homage to the traditional Southeast Asian curved blade, designed to evoke the claw of a mighty tiger. Originating from the Minangkabau people of West Sumatra, the Karambit was once a humble agricultural tool, used for tasks such as raking roots, threshing grain, and planting rice. As it transitioned into a weapon, its blade curve increased to optimize its cutting potential. Historically viewed as a peasant's weapon, the Karambit has since gained recognition as a significant instrument in Filipino martial arts. This knife is traditionally held with the blade extending downward from the bottom of the fist, ready for swift and precise action.
Blade Composition
This Karambit Knife is crafted from pattern-welded Damascus steel, a heat-treated, folded carbon steel known for its hardness and durability. The blade is composed of 11 pieces of steel, folded five times, resulting in a staggering 352 layers. A Rockwell hardness rating between 55 and 56 HRC testifies to its resilience. The high carbon Damascus steel incorporates layers of the highest carbon-content steel, 1095, which imparts strength to hold a powerful edge and the flexibility to withstand powerful impacts. The handle is fashioned from black horn, adding to the knife's robust character. The knife is accompanied by a protective leather sheath.
