Bowie Knife Details
The Bowie knife, a fixed-blade knife created by James Black in the early 19th century, originated in Arkansas, USA, and is named after the legendary Jim Bowie. Traditionally, the term "Bowie knife" refers to any large sheath knife with a crossguard and a clip point. These knives remain popular among collectors and hunters for their versatile design and robust build. Modern Bowie knives typically feature a blade length between 6 and 12 inches, with a broad, thick steel blade. The Bowie knife's design makes it ideal for hunting tasks such as skinning and butchering game. The curved top clip bevel, when sharpened, is excellent for skinning, while the straight edge near the guard is perfect for cutting meat. All Battling Blades Bowie knives are of exceptional quality, with thick, durable steel. These knives are intended for hunting or display purposes and are not sold for use as weapons.
Blade Material
Our Bowie knife is crafted from Pattern Welded Damascus steel, a hard, heat-treated, folded carbon steel. The steel consists of 11 pieces, folded five times to create 352 layers, resulting in a blade that combines hardness and durability, with a Rockwell hardness rating of 55-56 HRC. High carbon Damascus steel includes layers of 1095 steel, known for its high carbon content and superior performance in swords. This combination results in a blade that maintains a sharp edge while being flexible and resilient enough to withstand powerful impacts, making it an ideal material for high-quality knives. The handle is made of wood and horn, featuring Damascus steel bolsters, and the knife comes with a leather sheath.
