The backsword encompasses a diverse array of swords, some akin to broadswords and others more similar to sabres. This variability extends to the blade shapes, ranging from curved and pointed, akin to a sabre, to straight and blunt with basket hilts. The defining feature of all backswords is their single-edged blade. Originally popular among infantry for their ease and low cost of production, backswords evolved by the early 17th century to become a common secondary weapon for European cavalry, characterized by straight, slim blades with blunted tips. By the 18th century, this style had become predominant, with variations in weight and length reflecting the range of styles.

Blade Materials Our backsword is crafted from pattern-welded Damascus steel, known for its exceptional hardness and durability. The blade is made by folding 11 pieces of steel five times, resulting in 352 layers. The steel achieves a perfect balance of hardness and durability with a Rockwell hardness rating between 55 and 56 HRC. The high carbon steel used is 1095, the highest content carbon steel typically used in sword making. This meticulous process creates a sword that is resilient enough to maintain a sharp edge and withstand substantial impact. Each sword comes with a leather sheath.
